and i noticed a dry bald spot the size of a nickle on her head in her hair, there was absolutley no hair there anymore...so i flipped out and started realy looking and i found another one exactly the same size, it looks dry and the hair that was once there is gone now, it looks kinda whitish and dry, i am taking her to the doctor in the morning but im scared to death thinking why is my baby getting bald spots and losing the hair around it...could this be a sign of a major illness...... like lukemia or cancer im so freaked out.
Please help!!!!!!! I was brushing my three and a half year olds daughters hair?
It is possible that your daughter may have something called Alopecia. It is an auto-immune disease that causes your hair to fall out. However, it is not a life threatening illness in any way. I have heard about this condition before, but checked with WebMD to find out more information before I answered your question. I hope this helps. :o)

You definitely need to talk with the doctor. I'm sure you are anxious. I would be too.

Don't borrow trouble. You will drive yourself nuts doing that. It could just be a skin condition or she could be scratching it and diggin out the hair because it itches and you just haven't noticed. Hang in there until tomorrow.

Try to stay calm - it could have a very reasonable explanation. And, btw, it's the chemotherapy that causes hair to fall out - not the cancer.
Will you let us know tomorrow?

I work at an animal shelter and an animal hospital and those sound like ringworm. Ringworm is actually a fungus. It occurs a lot on animals, so if your daughter was in contact with any animals that have it, the spores could have just gotten on her. It's COMPLETELY harmless except it's itchy. It can be cured with any cream for athlete's foot or jock itch, or with dandruff shampoo. However, since I don't know exactly what the spots look like I can't tell for sure, but ringworm is dry, circular, and makes hair fall out. Go to the doctor to make sure, but I wouldn't worry too much at all =]

The medical term for this is alopecia, which is usually a harmless condition of unkown cause. Most likely, if she had a "major" illness, she would have other symptoms too. If there are no other symptoms and you just found it by coincidence, it is likely not worrisome. Occasionally, a yeast infection (ringworm) can do this, but that is unlikely from what you described. Going to the doctor is the right move.

don't freak out it's probably just ecema (sp?) sorta like psoriasis but on the head. I have it and it does the same thing to me. It's very common in children. But go to the doc anyway

I worked in Dermatology. The most common cause of bald patches in kids is that they pull it out. Do you ever see her with her wrapping her hair around her finger?
If she is losing it in patches, it is not likely serious. Serious stuff would have it falling evenly.
Let the doctor decide. But, I don't think you have much to worry about.

i don't think that it is cancer, i think that only happens as a result of curing it w/ kemo, but i could be wrong. it almost sounds like ringworm, if you have any pets that have it, then it could have been passed on, it makes your skin really dry in a ring shape, and the same on the hair, also, recently my friend got diagnosed with allapeciareadic and its a condition where your hair falls out, it is a pain and it takes a while to grow back, but it eventually does. also, the new hair graphs are pretty good, she got that done and just wore a hat around for a while and it looked fine. other then that, i would just say get her to the doctor as soon as possible. good luck with everything.

It does not seem like a cancer symptom. Hair loss is the result of chemotherapy not the cancer. If she has had a high fever in the last few months this can be a cause. He might recommend a dermatologist. Sometimes kids wrap their hair around their fingers when tired and as a result the hair thins out in certain areas.
