allergies, skin irritations, diet, endocrine problems, stress washing, ...

the only way to know for sure is to consult your vet.

I had a senior cat who was stress washing. The vet put her on meds that stopped it. My diabetic cat had hair-loss issues as well, as a result of his health problems.

I would talk to a vet it just could beussue she is getting older and might need more nutrition in her diet or possibly a reaction to fleas or mites. best to ask as she is an older kitty good luck!

Allergies, possibly?

My dog had bald spots on his flanks a while back and we figured out he was chewing them out of anxiety while everyone was gone during the days. It might be something like that too, although that doesn't sound like a very cat-thing to do.

Or maybe it has something to do with age?

My cat had a similar problem, only he was short haired, male and much younger, also an indoor cat. We took him to the vet several times because he would chew the fur off of his legs compulsively. The vet said it could be due to allergies, however I would guess (volunteered at a shelter since I was about 8) that old age could be a factor, pets tend have more issues with hair loss than younger pets. Unless the area is infected, red, or soar and causing pain, I wouldn't really be too worried.

Hope this helps!
